A GST lawyer is typically a lawyer whose practice is focussed on GST or HST issues. Canada’s “Goods and Services Tax” or “GST” in its short-form, is provided for in Part IX of the Excise Tax Act, and GST lawyers will typically be familiar with most issues arising in the GST context.
A GST lawyer will often also represent clients before many different levels of government (audits, objections, appeals). Many lawyers will also represent clients in appeals to the Tax Court of Canada.
Some GST lawyers will practice in a variety of GST areas, while other lawyers may focus exclusively on certain types of GST issues. Generally speaking, a GST lawyer will be more familiar with the GST than a general practitioner.
Millar Kreklewetz LLP has a number of GST lawyers with expertise across all possible GST issues, and who can represent you on GST matters before the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), and any other government department. The GST lawyers at Millar Kreklewetz LLP are also able to represent you before the Tax Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court of Canada on any GST or HST matters.
